Research Projects
PAMVERC Publication Introduction
Research on evaluation of new insecticides and long lasting treatments for nets and indoor residual spraying (IRS) started from 2003, most of the activities were Laboratory (WHO Phase Ib) and semi-field studies (WHO Phase II) evaluating insecticide efficacy. These studies include:
  • New insecticides and formulations for ITNs, LLINs and indoor residual spraying (IRS).
  • Long-lasting treatment kits for nets, and other materials e.g. treated blankets for emergencies and disasters
  • Resistance management techniques using insecticide mixtures and mosaics.
  • Biochemical studies of resistance mechanisms in An. arabiensis and Culex quinquefasciatus.
  • Behavioural response of An. arabiensis to repellents, ITNs and IRS.
Entomological monitoring
PAMVERC-KCMUCo in collaboration with NIMR and Tanzania NMCP and ZAMEP has participated in annual insecticide resistance monitoring since 2009 to date. This includes development of manuals and training of vector control personnel; monitoring of insecticide resistance in sentinel sites and development of insecticide Resistance Monitoring and Management plans for Zanzibar and Tanzania mainland.
